Research conducted by the West Midlands Regional Observatory has identified that 50 per cent of the region's environmental technology firms are looking to increase their workforce.
Its research also shows that many firms are actively investing in training and looking beyond traditional academic qualifications and skill sets when recruiting.
With more than 70,000 already employed in the environmental technologies sector (including low carbon and renewable energy-related businesses) the West Midlands has, the report suggests, "the potential to be a key driver of growth and source of employment in the future".
